Six feet tall and aged just 12

She's 6ft 1in tall but Tara Savage is only 12 years old. Recentlyshe was the subject of a TV documentary about supersized kids and revealed what it's like to be the tallest in not just her class, but her whole school.

While her parents and friends say Tara has grown up well adjusted, they admit there are some problems despite her height, though she is determined to lead a completely normal life. During the programme she admitted that she faces adolescence with trepidation and is worried her growing will never stop. The one-off documentary followed three tall teenagers and their battle with everyday life. From finding a bed long enough to sleep in and clothes to fit, to later on in life cars to fit into and be able to drive, medical issues and of course finding romance.

At the family home in Benenden, near Tenterden, her mum Sue, said: "She's still growing and will be for at least four more years. She is slowing down, the growth rate, but it could potentially be she ends up at 6ft 7ins foot tall." During the programme, Tara went to see a growth specialist to find out, as she approaches her 13th birthday, whether she's ever going to stop growing. Tara towers above her classmates as the average height for a 12-year-old is usually around five feet.

She said: "I don't think I could take it if I was much taller. I did have a choice when I was 11 that when I reached six foot that I could take a pill to stop my hormones, to stop me growing. But I decided not to do that, and just to let nature take its course." Sue added: "People will always look at her differently. She's always been off the charts for height, completely off all the charts." The programme followed Tara as she visited a growth specialist at hospital to see just how tall she will eventually be. An incredibly anxious Tara is measured and her hands are X-rayed so doctors can work out her bone age and potential further growth. Sue said: "If you didn't know her, then you would automatically assume she's 17 or 18. But she's still a little girl who loves all the things little girls do."
